As a taxpayer in Texas and your constituent, I urge you to actively work on behalf of taxpayers by rejecting the federal stimulus dollars that require the state to alter existing policy or obligate us to future spending.
The legislature should only accept those federal dollars that come without strings or obligations.
Specifically, I am worried about lawmakers taking Unemployment Insurance funds through the stimulus package that would obligate Texans to expansion of the program, higher taxes and therefore fewer economic opportunities.
Texas has had a stronger, more vibrant and productive economy than any other state in the nation. We shouldn’t take federal monies that force us to alter what has worked so remarkably well.
I expect the Legislature to work to cut taxes, reduce spending and free the economy – not shackle us with more spending and future obligations.
