Texans for Fiscal Responsibility is fighting for a ban of this practice, as 95% of Republican voters supported in 2020, and 67% of all general election voters supported in 2024. 2. Eliminate Property Taxes
Property taxes, up 330% in 25 years and 37% since 2018, burden families even after the mortgage has been paid, and make the American Dream unattainable for many. We believe there is a better way. Texans for Fiscal Responsibility proposes phasing out these taxes, starting with school taxes, which account for roughly half of the average property owner’s tax bill. Nearly 78% of Republican voters agree it’s time to act.
3. CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING
Texas’ state spending has grown 43% since 2021, far faster than even population growth plus inflation. This is unsustainable, growing the tax burden on Texans and making issues like property tax relief more difficult. Texans for Fiscal Responsibility calls for capping the State budget and cutting woke and wasteful spending to prioritize families’ needs, like tax relief. Likewise, local government spending and debt is skyrocketing, further entrenching Texan’s tax burden.
