As Texans gather around tables this Thanksgiving, we at Texans for Fiscal Responsibility want to pause amid the turkey and football to say something simple and heartfelt: thank you.
This has not been an easy year for Texas families. Grocery bills are higher. Utility costs keep climbing. And far too many homeowners opened their property tax bills only to feel that familiar knot in their stomachs as the numbers shot up again. Across the state, hardworking people are being asked to do more with less while state and local budgets swell with little restraint. In too many cases, the government that is supposed to serve us has instead become the heaviest burden many families carry.
Yet in the middle of all this, you have not grown silent. You have not walked away.
You’ve forwarded our emails to friends. You’ve shown up at committee hearings—sometimes driving hours after work to testify. You’ve called your state representatives and senators when bloated spending bills were moving. You’ve shared our research on social media, donated when you could, and prayed for this mission when money was tight. You’ve reminded politicians, politely but firmly, that the money they spend belongs first to the people who earned it.
That kind of steadfast citizenship and patriotism is rare, and it is powerful. Because of you, lawmakers have felt real pressure to prioritize pro-taxpayer and pro-family reforms, and to think twice before growing government on the backs of Texas families. Because of you, the cause of fiscal responsibility and limited government is still alive and fighting in Austin. And it has never been stronger.
We are deeply, genuinely grateful for every one of you.
This Thanksgiving, we pray you find real rest and real joy with the people you love most. May your tables be full, your homes warm, and your hearts light, because you have earned it.
And yes, Giving Tuesday follows close behind Thanksgiving again this year. It’s a day when many Texans who believe government should live within its means and should serve its citizens, not the other way around, choose to invest in the work of holding it accountable. We’ll have more to say about that next week. But today is not for asking. Today is for giving thanks: to God for His blessings on this state, and to each of you for being the reason Texans for Fiscal Responsibility can keep fighting.
From all of us here—staff, board, volunteers, and the thousands of grassroots leaders across Texas—thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing that fiscal discipline isn’t just good policy, it’s a moral obligation to our children and grandchildren. Thank you for helping us defend Texas families from an ever-growing government.
And as with year years past, we leave you with this beautiful prayer to pray and reflect upon:
“Most gracious God, by whose knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew: We yield thee unfeigned thanks and praise for the return of seed-time and harvest, for the increase of the ground and the gathering in of the fruits thereof, and for all the other blessings of thy merciful providence bestowed upon this nation and people.
And, we beseech thee, give us a just sense of these great mercies; such as may appear in our lives by an humble, holy, and obedient walking before thee all our days; who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.”
May your Thanksgiving be blessed, and may God continue to bless the great State of Texas.
With profound gratitude,
The Team at Texans for Fiscal Responsibility
