Seize the Moment: Texas’ March Primary Elections

by | Feb 20, 2026 | 0 comments

Right now, early voting is underway for the March 3, 2026, Primary Elections, running from February 17 through February 27. This is your chance to help shape the future of our state by selecting party nominees for key offices, from state representatives and senators, to county judges and more.

With critical issues like property taxes, government spending, and immigration enforcement on the line, the votes cast in this primary will help determine who will be in office to tackle these and other critical issues in the years to come.

But to vote effectively, you need reliable information. Below, explore three essential tools to become a more informed voter.

The Fiscal Responsibility Index

One powerful resource is the Fiscal Responsibility Index, produced by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (TFR). The Index evaluates Texas lawmakers on their voting records related to the size and role of government, focusing on issues like taxes, spending, government bureaucracy and individual liberty. It grades representatives and senators on a 0-100 scale, highlighting who prioritizes the interests of taxpayers and families.

For the most recent 89th session in 2025, the House averaged a score of 58, the Senate 67, and overall 59, revealing significant room for improvement. Use the Index at TexasTaxpayers.com/index to review incumbents’ past performance, more effectively hold lawmakers accountable, and choose candidates aligned with efficient, limited government.

Leverage TFR’s Endorsements

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility also provide endorsements for candidates committed to pro-taxpayer and pro-family policies. These endorsements stem from a rigorous process, including a candidate questionnaire surveying views on fiscal reforms and more. TFR endorses those who pledge to fight government waste and promote liberty. Check out our endorsements at TexasTaxpayers.com/endorsements. While not exhaustive, these picks offer a starting point for voters seeking fiscally conservative options.

Consult Your Local Elections Office for Practical Details

Finally, turn to your county’s elections office or the statewide VoteTexas.gov for hands-on resources. Here, you can access sample ballots, showing exactly what races and propositions you’ll see. Local elections offices often provide voter-specific ballots, early voting schedules, and voting locations. This ensures you’re prepared, avoiding surprises at the polls.

Our Future

Voting isn’t just a right; it’s a responsibility. Primaries often have lower turnout, meaning your ballot carries even more weight. By participating, you directly influence who appears on the ballot in November.

Don’t sit on the sidelines. Head to a polling place today and make your voice heard.

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility relies on the support of private donors across the Lone Star State in order to promote fiscal responsibility and pro-taxpayer government in Texas. Please consider supporting our efforts! Thank you!
