Texans for Fiscal Responsibility has issued the following vote notice for January 14, 2025
(Day 1 of the 89th Legislative Session):
Texas House of Representatives
Subject: Speaker of the House
- TFR Position:
- Support State Rep. David Cook (R-Mansfield), or other “reform” candidate
- Oppose State Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock), or other “status quo” candidate
- Background: State Rep. David Cook has committed to reforming the Texas House, including by ending the practice of chairmanships for the minority party. By comparison, State Rep. Dustin Burrows has flouted the Republican caucus process and rules, has sought democrat support in order to secure the speakership when it became clear he would not win the Republican caucus nomination, and has indicated that he would continue the practice of minority party chairmanships.
