Election Results Promise a More Prosperous Future for All

As Tuesday’s election results began pouring in, it became clear that the American people voted to deliver a vicious referendum on the past 4 years of fiscal irresponsibility and government expansion.

While fiscal conservatives gathered up consequential wins across the country and at every level of government, the national spotlight remains on President-elect Donald J. Trump, who secured a decisive victory against Vice President Kamala Harris. Being only the second president in American existence to win two non-contiguous elections, and the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years, Donald Trump made an historic comeback the likes of which few have ever seen. The especially vicious and hostile election season of 2024 culminated with voters indisputably rejecting the status quo of Joe Biden and the Democratic Party’s leadership, which ushered in extreme inflation, unchecked government spending, innovation-killing regulations and a cost-of-living crisis that has crippled the American people.

Here in Texas, Ted Cruz secured his third term in the U.S. Senate, defeating Democrat hopeful Colin Allred. Contrary to what polling had suggested, Cruz’s victory was definitive, with Allred losing by nearly 9 points and almost a million votes statewide. The Dallas congressman was exceptionally well funded by the national Democratic Party, who’s hopes at a blue Texas in the near future have been squashed. Texas as a whole has shifted considerably further to the right, approximately 8 points overall since 2020. Additionally, Republicans expanded their majorities in both the State House and Senate, signaling increasingly promising possibilities for restoring fiscal sanity in the State government during 2025’s 89th legislative session.

So, what can the American people expect from a Trump Administration? For those who value fiscal responsibility and wish to see the scope of government shrink, President Trump has made encouraging promises and proposals that, with a sympathetic House and Senate, will ideally become realities. Most ambitiously, Trump has partnered with both Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has become a fiercely loyal supporter of his, and potentially former Senator Ron Paul, to work on slashing spending through the creation of a Department of Government Efficiency.

With a focus on wasteful spending, this alliance hopes to conduct a thorough audit on the entire federal government. It can be expected that entire agencies and departments within the entrenched bureaucracy will be significantly diminished or, possibly even eliminated. In a similar fashion to how Musk runs his businesses, all unnecessary and inefficient functions of government will ideally be reined in, and the taxpayer benefited in turn. Elon believes that the annual federal budget could be reduced by over $2 trillion per year through this initiative.

Trump and Elon together have touted plans to slash constrictive and overbearing regulations on the American economy, while extricating massive amounts of spending that is bankrupting the nation as a whole. Alongside cuts in spending will be additional tax cuts for the American people and businesses, perhaps even greater than those in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act from Trump’s first administration. Trump’s campaign has been abundant in promises to cut taxes on tips, social security, and overtime, with the President-elect even flirting with the idea of eliminating income taxes altogether. 

Having been granted the popular mandate, President Trump has a mission to fulfill the will of American voters, who have consistently pleaded for lower taxes, lower spending, and less intervention in their lives and wallets. With the team that is being assembled, the chance for authentic and constructive change is better than ever. 

Here in the Lone Star State, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility will be taking advantage of the expanded Republican majority and continuously advocating for our legislative priorities. We continue to push for the total elimination of property taxes, banning taxpayer funded lobbying, and ending corporate welfare, as well as the promotion of budget reforms, zero governmental growth, and protection of the taxpayer. With a greater conservative majority than ever, our representatives have no excuse to fail in fulfilling the will of their constituents, and we will hold them accountable every step of the way.
