As Texans gather to celebrate Independence Day, with fireworks lighting up the night sky and barbecues filling the air with the aroma of freedom, we are reminded of the principles that founded our nation: liberty, self-reliance, and the right to keep the fruits of our labor.
This 4th of July, we should all recommit to these ideals by championing the cause of Texas taxpayers, advocating for limited government, and pushing for reforms that empower families and individuals over bureaucratic excess.
Independence, at its core, means freedom from oppressive and unjust control. Yet, today, many Texans find their financial freedom eroded by excessive property taxes that strain household budgets and threaten homeownership. Texans must stand firm in the fight for property tax relief and, ultimately, the elimination of this burdensome tax. By reducing reliance on property taxes, we can return more money to Texans, allowing families to thrive and communities to prosper without the heavy hand of government draining their resources.
Wasteful government spending further undermines the spirit of independence. Every dollar spent on frivolous projects, woke schemes and bloated bureaucracies is a dollar taken from hardworking Texans. To maintain true freedom, there should be a rigorous scrutiny of state and local budgets to eliminate waste and prioritize essential services that will propel families forward. This 4th of July, let’s honor the sacrifices of our founders by ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely, not squandered on inappropriate programs.
Equally troubling is the practice of taxpayer-funded lobbying, where public money is used to lobby for more government spending, often against the interests of the very taxpayers footing the bill. This perverse cycle must end. Banning taxpayer-funded lobbying is a critical step toward restoring accountability and ensuring government serves the people, not itself.
Our vision for Texas is one where pro-taxpayer and pro-family reforms take center stage. Policies that strengthen families, protect private property, and foster economic opportunity must be the priority. By limiting government’s reach, we empower Texans to live freely and build a prosperous future. This Independence Day, we celebrate the resilience of Texas families and their right to a government that respects their hard-earned money.
As we wave the Stars and Stripes this 4th of July, let’s renew our commitment to the principles of liberty and self-governance. Let’s demand a Texas where taxpayers are free from excessive burdens, where government is lean and accountable, where families can flourish, and the common good is actually promoted.
Together, we can reclaim the spirit of independence—not just for today, but for generations to come.
