Remembering the Life of Bob Bruce: A True Champion for Texas Taxpayers

by | Apr 8, 2026 | 0 comments

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility mourns the passing of Robert “Bob” Bruce, a true American patriot, a bold partner for a better Texas, and one of the conservative movement’s strongest voices in the fight to protect taxpayers and families.

Bob Bruce was a man who lived out the principles we fight for every day. His commitment to individual liberty, fiscal discipline, and personal responsibility leaves a lasting mark on Texas and on the countless individuals who had the privilege of working alongside him.

As one of the first elected members of the Bexar Central Appraisal District Board of Directors, Bob brought a taxpayer-first mindset to a system too often tilted against property owners. He led efforts to provide relief for Texans who challenged their property valuations, ensuring they would not face immediate reappraisal the following year. It was a practical reform that reflected his deep understanding of how government decisions impact hardworking families.

Bob was never content with the status quo. He was known for asking hard questions, pushing for better answers, and pursuing solutions that would benefit taxpayers. As one of his colleagues put it, “he was a leader in disrupting the status quo.”

Beyond his public service, Bob was a successful entrepreneur and visionary. He founded Boerne Stage Airfield, which he and his wife, Nancy, operated for decades, as well as an advertising company. Bob was also deeply engaged in the broader conservative movement, working alongside organizations such as The Heritage Foundation and the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Leaders across Texas have rightfully recognized his impact. He has been remembered as a patriot, a friend, and a man who “fought the good fight” with both joy and determination. That spirit defined his life and his work, all guided by his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility is especially grateful for Bob’s support and partnership. He understood that holding government accountable is not easy work, but it is essential to the foundation of our freedoms. His commitment to our organization greatly strengthened our mission to protect taxpayers and promote fiscally responsible governance in Texas. Bob went as far as regularly contributing his voice to some of the most impactful ads on major TV and radio efforts to help educate voters about how Austin impacts their families and pocketbooks. He was an “above and beyond” activist who donated his talent, time, and treasure to leaving Texas better than he found it for the generations of taxpayers and families to come.

Bob Bruce’s legacy is one of service, courage, and conviction. He was a faithful friend and partner until the very end, and we miss him greatly.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Nancy, and all who knew and loved him.

May we honor his legacy by continuing the work he believed in so deeply.
