Today, May 11th, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility sent the following letter to Texas A&M officials regarding ideological course offerings centered on themes of gender theory, identity politics, and grievance-based frameworks, calling for the courses to be removed before the Fall, 2026 semester.

I write to raise serious concern regarding the direction of academic offerings at Texas A&M University, particularly as it relates to the use of taxpayer resources to fund courses rooted in ideological advocacy rather than rigorous, skills-based education.
As you are aware, Texas A&M is a publicly funded institution with a core mission rooted in preparing students for productive careers, advancing research, and serving the economic and civic needs of the State of Texas. With that mission in mind, recent course offerings raise serious questions.
A review of Fall 2026 course offerings reveals a substantial number of classes that appear to be centered on themes of gender theory, identity politics, and grievance-based frameworks. These include:
- Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST 200)
- Introduction to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Studies (WGST 205)
- Introduction to Gender and Society (SOCI/WGST 207)
- Stereotypes, Prejudice and Minority Experience (PBSI 208)
- Gender and Health (SOCI/WGST 213)
- Sociology of Gender (SOCI/WGST 316)
- Racial and Ethnic Relations (AFST/SOCI 317)
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Literatures (ENGL/WGST 333)
- Diversity in Sport Organizations (SPMT 336)
- Health Disparities and Diversity in Society (PHLT 336)
- Human Sexuality (HLTH/PHLT 342)
- Gender, Race and Media (COMM/WGST 407)
- Reproduction, Birth, and Power (SOCI/WGST 610)
- Research Seminar in Gender and Sexuality in History (HIST/WGST 619)
- Women and Nations (INTA 645)
- Theories of Gender (ENGL/WGST 680)
While universities should remain places for open inquiry, the concentration of courses framed through a leftist ideological lens raises legitimate concerns about whether Texas A&M is fulfilling its mission as a public institution accountable to Texas taxpayers.
Institutional Mission and Fiscal Responsibility Concerns
Texas taxpayers fund higher education to produce graduates equipped with practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and knowledge that contribute to the state’s economic strength and civic life. Courses on activism instead of analysis do not advance these objectives.
Texas families are struggling with rising costs, and public funds should not subsidize wasteful and grievance-based programs. These courses violate the spirit of legislative action by Texas elected officials and serve no purpose other than indoctrinating our students and wasting taxpayer money.
Request for Action
In light of these concerns, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility strongly urges university leadership and the Board of Regents to adhere to Texas A&M’s long and storied tradition of conservative principles, the spirit of the core values, and its institutional mission by removing these ideological courses. Texas taxpayers deserve better.
Texas A&M has a proud legacy. Ensuring that it remains focused on excellence rather than activism is essential to preserving that legacy for future generations.

The Texas A&M Board of Regents voted on May 6th to appoint Dr. Susan Ballabina as 28th President of Texas A&M University. Dr. Ballabina officially assumed her role as the new President of Texas A&M University today, May 11th.
